On the afternoon of September 13, the SOO held commencement ceremony for class of 2023 new students. Student orientation and Dean's first lecture were held afterwards.

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the SOO Academic Committee Su Jilan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Co-Dean of SOO Chen Dake, Dean of SOO Zhou Meng, Chair of SOO Council Li Wei, SOO Vice Dean Tian Bingxue, Wang Fengping and Tao Chunhui, Vice Chair of SOO Council Xu Yan, researcher of the Polar Research Institute of China Luo Wei, and representatives of SOO faculty members as well as all the 99 new students attended the event. Xu Yan presided over the opening ceremony.

Li Wei extended a warm welcome to the new class of 2023.

Zhou Meng talked about the development history and research areas of SOO in the "Dean's First Lesson".

Tao Chunhui made a presentation on behalf of the Second Institute of Oceanography, MNR. Luo Wei made a presentation on behalf of the Polar Research Institute of China.

Liu Jiahui, a Ph.D. student from the class of 2022, spoke as a representative of the old students, and Guo Shuyan, an undergraduate student from the class of 2023, spoke as a representative of the new students.

Tian Bingxue presented certificates to Li Qian and Qu Lixin as Class Advisors for the class of 2023 undergraduates.

Academician Su Jilan gave his earnest advice to the students.

Academician Chen Dake made speech to welcome new students.

Faculty members briefly introduced physical oceanography, chemical oceanography, biological oceanography, geological oceanography and marine technology to new students.
