Academician PAN works on the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics (SOED), Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources (SIO,MNR). He is currently the leader director of the National Marine Informatization Technology Expert Group and as an expert member of International Ocean Color Coordinating Group (IOCCG).Heis also as a double-employed Professor employed by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since October 2018.

He is currentlythe vice chairman of Chinese Society of Oceanography, the leader ofthe National Marine Informatization Technology Expert Group, and as an expert member of International Ocean color coordinating Group (IOCCG).He has served asEditor-in-Chiefof Acta Oceanologica Sinicafrom 2012 to 2017,and as a member of the third Expert Committee of the National Disaster Reduction Committee.

He has won several Awards, includingone Remote Sensing Achievement Award of International Optical Engineering Society (2002), oneSpecial Prize of National Science and Technology Progress (2003), one Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress(2013),one Major Contribution Award of Zhejiang Science and Technology (2015),one Award of Guanghua Engineering (2016), and oneOutstanding innovative talents Award of ZhejiangProvince(2017). He has also won one Special Prize and five the First Prizes of the Provincial or Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award.
