4)海洋种群动力学的数学理论和观测,
5)海洋生态系统中的生物量输运及效率的理论和观测。
周朦曾参加40多次科考航次,包括24次南北极科考;参加、组织和主持多个美国、欧洲和中国大型综合项目,例如美国东边界流项目、南大洋JGOFS、东北太平洋GLOBEC、南大洋GLOBEC、南大洋自然铁和生物结构演变项目、南大洋磷虾和鲸鱼耦合研究项目、挪威陆架浮游生物习性项目、挪威陆坡资源和气候项目、法国地中海观测系统计划、法国自然铁和碳通量项目、及中国973计划南海陆坡生态系统项目。
